Good read, bad policy

Just a wee li'l rant this morning.

There's an interesting article over at PC World: Is Rural America Doomed to Dial-up or some such.

I read it and the article has some valid points. I could refute and assist and debate and agree and I live way rural, so I wanted to comment. In order to comment they want you to "sign in." What? an email address and your name... sure, to prevent spammers, right? Maybe they'd drop me a line later asking me to opt-in or somesuch. OK.

No. A full page questionnaire that might take 15 minutes to complete unless you use autofill... and even then it's a one shot response to an intriguing article.

PC World, you've just lost a reader!

Oh, yeah, my comment:

We live in the 'sticks' and have DSL. Before that we had a nice, speedy line-of-sight service. Once upon a time we had satellite. When we're on the road, we have a near DSL cellular connection. I'll agree that the major telecoms are being slow, but that does not mean its not being made available in other forms. Do a bit ofresearch and you might be surprised. Of course, what I'm calling broadband and what others call broadband are not always to same. I have no interest in gaming and watching television online.
